Wage & Hour Laws: Pitfalls with New Technologies and How to Reduce your Risk and Insure the Remainder

Navigating the finer points of wage and hour law can be a confusing venture. The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) rules and regulations may confuse even seasoned human resources and payroll professionals.  With the increasing scope of responsibilities employees are handling, new technology and more dynamic work settings, missed information, and misinterpretation of critical laws, regulations, and amendments may lead to investigations by the Department of Labor or lawsuits from employees.

Join us on Thursday, October 4, 2012 for an informative seminar, Wage & Hour Laws: Pitfalls with New Technologies and How to Reduce Your Risk and Insure the Remainder, where Thomas J. Barton, Partner at Drinker Biddle, will discuss many facets of wage & hour laws, including:

    • Employer contracts and policies;
    • Workday start and stop times;
    • Compensable time;
    • Breaks, paid and not;
    • Overtime;
    • Salary basis; and
    • Record keeping, with a focus on how these issues impact an employer’s obligations in the face of employee’s use of cell phones and computer systems outside of normal work hours.

John Kilgarriff, Account Manager at The Graham Company, will discuss the difficulties in obtaining insurance coverage for FLSA claims under standard insurance policies as well as discuss certain policies providing “stand alone” FLSA defense coverage.

We hope you can join us!
